Brightspeed is a fiber and copper internet provider based in Charlotte, North Carolina, that began operating on October 3, 2022, after Apollo-managed funds bought Lumen's local phone company operations in 20 states. In those areas, former CenturyLink and Quantum Fiber customers became Brightspeed customers, a deal separate from AT&T's February 2026 purchase of Lumen's consumer fiber business.
Brightspeed says it serves rural and suburban communities in 20 states, including North Carolina, Ohio, Texas and Virginia, and its FCC filings as of December 31, 2025 cover the same 20; both are reported coverage, not address checks. Brightspeed.com, checked September 23, 2026, shows symmetrical fiber tiers of 200 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 940 Mbps and 2 Gig with a Wi-Fi 7 router in select areas, and says fiber plans have no annual contracts, termination fees or data caps.
In FCC data, Optimum reports service in most of Rocky Mount and Spectrum in most of Hickory, two North Carolina places where Brightspeed also reports service.
