Ask for the exact street-address offer, including the unit number if there is one. Viasat's published satellite plans describe national starting offers; they do not establish your available plan, final monthly rate or attainable speed. Its FAQ lists speeds up to 25–150 Mbps in select areas, with no guaranteed result at a particular home.

1. Confirm whether Essentials, Unleashed or another plan is actually available at your address, and obtain the Broadband Consumer Label and written order summary for that offer.
2. Compare the introductory internet rate with the rate after the promotion. Add the equipment lease, installation, taxes, surcharges and any optional services before deciding what the service will cost.
3. Check the data policy, minimum service term, cancellation terms and any special installation charge in the same written quote.

What do Essentials and Unleashed mean for data?

Essentials: Viasat currently lists 150 GB of High-Speed Data per monthly billing period, followed by unlimited Standard Data. After the 150 GB is used, Standard Data may be put behind other traffic when the network is congested, so speeds can drop. This is a change in priority, not an automatic shutoff or a promise of the same speed all month.

Unleashed: Viasat lists unlimited High-Speed Data and no monthly data cap. Its Unlimited Data Policy still allows reduced priority during congestion if use trends above that of a typical residential customer. A household that streams heavily or downloads large files should read the current policy rather than treating “unlimited” as a guarantee against slowdowns. Viasat can adjust its usage indicators, so we do not treat a single published threshold as a permanent allowance.

How does the satellite connection feel in daily use?

Viasat uses a fixed satellite dish at the home. Because satellite signals travel farther than terrestrial connections, latency is higher than on cable or DSL, according to Viasat's FAQ. Latency is the delay before a connection responds; it is different from download speed. Web browsing and ordinary streaming can work, while fast-paced multiplayer games, some VPNs and other delay-sensitive tasks may be frustrating. Video calls and multiple streams also depend on the actual connection and congestion, so check the applications your household cannot do without before replacing another service.

Viasat requires a clear view toward the southern sky and professional installation of leased equipment. Renters should check permission for a dish before scheduling. Its installation guidance says a technician surveys the site and brings the required equipment; a nonstandard mount or other site requirement should be priced before installation.

What will the plan cost, and is there a contract?

The monthly internet charge is only one part of the bill. Viasat says a promotional discount can apply to the internet service fee without covering equipment lease, add-ons, taxes or surcharges. Its fee guide also describes lease, installation and administrative charges. The amount due at your address is unknown until Viasat supplies the written offer; do not assume an advertised starting rate is the all-in monthly total.

Viasat's current FAQ describes Unleashed as month-to-month without an early termination fee and Essentials as having a 12-month minimum term with possible early termination charges. Confirm which term applies to the actual plan you are offered. If you leave, ask which leased equipment must be returned and when.

If fiber, cable or a qualified fixed-wireless plan is available at your home, compare its written price, upload speed, latency, data rules and installation terms with Viasat's offer.
